Sea|mester: Day 27
By: Cole Timothy Lewis
We started off today with a sea turtle snorkel at the Tobago Cays, on which I encountered 2 sea turtles and many cool fishes. After that, we headed back to Ocean Star to start our first EFR (emergency first responder) class. But wait! I’m already EFR certified! I was exempt from this class so I spent that time with Nick setting up the boom swing, which is a rope swing we hang from our main sail boom. I was planning on writing a paper during that class, but setting up the swing with Nick ended up being my favorite part of the day. We also bought lobster and fresh fish from a local guy. All around the islands, people will drive up to our ship in little dinghys and try to sell us fish, or water, and sometimes they even offer to take our trash. This time we took the offer of fresh lobster and I’m so glad we did. We used the boat grill, melted some butter, and had a lobster feast. Besides Maine lobster, it was the best I’d ever had. We spent the afternoon swinging off the boom and eating seafood. After dinner, we set up the projector on deck and watched Pirates of the Caribbean. Tomorrow we head to that island to find the rum.
